DESCRIPTION:Please note that due to the change in legal structure of the Somerset Parent Carer Forum\, the words that we use to describe ourselves has had to change. The term “Steering Group” now refers to the committee of 10 who oversee the running of the forum. This does NOT mean we will stop seeking the views and recommendations from our Parent/ Carer community. \nThe first 45 minutes of the Steering group meeting is open to everyone. DESCRIPTION:We are Jump-Start – Finding Your Way Support Group in partnership with Somerset Parent Carer Forum and Home Start West Somerset \nWe are a friendly and informal parent-lead support group who meet once a month.  Here you can meet with other families of children with special educational needs and/or disabilities. We meet on the first Thursday of every month between 10am -12pm at the Minehead Eye\, 1 Mart Road\, Minehead\, TA24 5BJ with use of the Bounce Monkey play equipment. Refreshments are provided. \nOur monthly meetings give parent/carers a chance to share information gain practical and emotional support over coffee/ biscuits. \nIf you have only just found out that your child/young adult has special needs or has been living with a diagnosis for years\, it is always good to talk to others in your situation and to feel that you are not alone. Don’t worry if your child/young adult has not been given a firm diagnosis\, we welcome all families\, diagnosed or not. \nWe sometimes also invite various professionals to come and attend our meetings both to meet parents informally and to discuss issues of general interest \nIf you are coming for the first time\, please feel free to bring a friend\, a support worker or family member with you. All are welcome!

SUMMARY:Home Education Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Somerset Parent Carer Forum is a independent not for profit community interest company that works with families in Somerset. Several of our families are now home schooling or are considering this for their children and they have approached us requested information. \nWe are therefore going to run three workshops to explore support for Home Education within Somerset. We want to hear your experiences and thoughts on how it has been for your family. What help\, and support is available locally\, including support networks? Which are your favourite places to visit and what resources are good to use? What would you have liked to know before you started home education? \nThe workshops will be run by 2 of our representatives\, one currently home educates and the other has done so in the past. Over the course of these workshops we will gather information that can be shared with local families who are either home educating or are considering it. This will then be used to create a resource available both online and as a paper copy. We want this to be guided and designed by the groups themselves\, so we are looking forward to seeing how this develops. \nThe workshop will be really relaxed\, and we would like children and young people to attend and join in with the discussions and to help decide on how the information should be displayed and shared. We will also have some colouring activities for younger children to do if they want to. We have a small amount of money which we can use to support with travel expenses to get to the sessions.

SUMMARY:Home Education Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Somerset Parent Carer Forum is a independent not for profit community interest company that works with families in Somerset. Several of our families are now home schooling or are considering this for their children and they have approached us requested information. \nWe are therefore going to run three workshops to explore support for Home Education within Somerset. We want to hear your experiences and thoughts on how it has been for your family. What help\, and support is available locally\, including support networks? Which are your favourite places to visit and what resources are good to use? What would you have liked to know before you started home education? \nThe workshops will be run by 2 of our representatives\, one currently home educates and the other has done so in the past. Over the course of these workshops we will gather information that can be shared with local families who are either home educating or are considering it. This will then be used to create a resource available both online and as a paper copy. We want this to be guided and designed by the groups themselves\, so we are looking forward to seeing how this develops. \n  \nThe workshop will be really relaxed\, and we would like children and young people to attend and join in with the discussions and to help decide on how the information should be displayed and shared. We will also have some colouring activities for younger children to do if they want to. We have a small amount of money which we can use to support with travel expenses to get to the sessions. \n

DESCRIPTION:We are Jump-Start – Finding Your Way Support Group in partnership with Somerset Parent Carer Forum and Home Start West Somerset \nWe are a friendly and informal parent-lead support group who meet once a month.  Here you can meet with other families of children with special educational needs and/or disabilities. We meet on the first Thursday of every month between 10am -12pm at the Minehead Eye\, 1 Mart Road\, Minehead\, TA24 5BJ with use of the Bounce Monkey play equipment. Refreshments are provided. \nOur monthly meetings give parent/carers a chance to share information gain practical and emotional support over coffee/ biscuits. \nIf you have only just found out that your child/young adult has special needs or has been living with a diagnosis for years\, it is always good to talk to others in your situation and to feel that you are not alone. Don’t worry if your child/young adult has not been given a firm diagnosis\, we welcome all families\, diagnosed or not. \nWe sometimes also invite various professionals to come and attend our meetings both to meet parents informally and to discuss issues of general interest \nIf you are coming for the first time\, please feel free to bring a friend\, a support worker or family member with you. All are welcome!
