Unsung Heroes 2018

The Unsung Heroes event was designed by The Unstoppables, Somerset Parent Carer Forum CIC and the Engagement and Participation team at Somerset County Council. This years Unsung Heroes celebration event for special educational needs and disabilities will take place at Dillington House on 13th March 2020.

The events aims to acknowledge and celebrate individuals who strive to improve the outcomes for children and young people who have Special Educational Needs and/or disabilities in Somerset.

The highlight of the evening is always the awards for the child of the year, young person of the year, family of the year and peer supporter.

The individuals nominated for these categories have overcome or supported someone to overcome their challenges and work towards achieving their goal however big or small.

The nominations are now open and will stay open until midnight on the 1st March. Nominations can be made by anyone who lives in Somerset; this could be a parent, child, young person, practitioner such as school, GP etc. To nominate someone please complete the form available here.

Categories Include:

CHILD OF THE YEAR. Aged between 0-13, someone who has overcome challenges and are working towards achieving their goal.

YOUNG PERSON OF THE YEAR. Aged between 14-25, someone who has overcome challenges and are working towards achieving their goal.

FAMILY OF THE YEAR. A family who have worked together to overcome challenges and are working towards achieving their goal

ENGAGEMENT AND PARTICIPATION. Someone who listens to and acts on the feedback from children, young people and their families to improve services.

INNOVATIVE WORKING-THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX. Someone who has gone the extra mile to think creatively and promote inclusion.

INFORMATION AND ADVICE AWARD. Someone or a team who provide information and advice to children, young people and families.

ORGANISATION (OR TEAM) OF THE YEAR. Team or organisation that provides positive opportunities for children, young people and families.

PEER TO PEER SUPPORTER OF THE YEAR. A child or young person who has helped a friend/class mate.

BEING A GOOD LISTENER AND EMPOWERING OTHERS. Someone who has actively listened and helped empower other to have their views heard and ring involved in decisions.
